Custom Portraits

What makes a good photo and what doesn't?

The short answer is, the better the photo the better results.

In Focus

One of the obvious and most important things is the sharpness of the photo.  The more detail you can see in the photo better.  A good rule of thumb is to check out the level of detail and focus around subjects eyes.

Lighting

Your photo should be well lit with even light across the image, especially in key areas like faces.  Try to avoid taking photos in bright sunlight, as this can cast dark shadows where we are unable to define enough detail for our illustration.

When will I be sent the proof for review?
  • After placing an order for a custom art portrait, we aim to produce your artwork and email you a digital proof for approval within 1-2 business days.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: If we do not receive a reply from you approving the proof within 3 working days, we will consider that as an acceptance that the proof is OK and we will print and despatch the artwork to you.
  • LOVE IT OR YOUR MONEY BACK! – In the event that you are not happy with the custom portrait artwork we produce for you, and you decide not to approve it, we will refund your purchase in full, without any issues or ill will.  
Do I get a refund if I don't like the proof?

YES, of Course!  We operate a LOVE IT OR YOUR MONEY BACK policy on our custom portraits.  In the event that you are not happy with the custom portrait artwork we produce for you, and you decide not to approve it, we will refund your purchase in full, without any issues or ill will.  

When will my order be delivered?

Standard Non-Custom Art Prints

All of our non-custom art prints are usually printed and despatched to the following timescales:

  • Art prints up to A3 or 12″ X 18″ are printed and despatched in-house within 1-2 business days.
  • Larger art prints of above A3 or 12″ X 18″ are printed by our print lab partners within 2-3 business days.

Custom Portraits and Artwork

Can I order a different print size to what's available?

Yes.  We are happy to accept custom requests for different sizes. Just get in touch and let you know you’re requirements and we’ll do our best to help.

Can I have more than one pet/person in the artwork?

Our artwork is created using the photo you provide as a guide.  If you would like to have more than one pet or person in the artwork, you will need to provide us with a photo that already includes everyone in it.  We are not able to take a person or pet from one photo and include it in another.

Are you able to remove a small imperfection or object from my photo so it's not included in the illustration?

Yes, we can usually do this type of thing for you, depending on how big it is.  If you have a great photo you’d like to use but you’re concerned about a small part of it, get in touch with us first and attached the photo on our contact form here.

Can I send you an image that is not my own?

Yes.  However, it’s your responsibility to ensure that you have obtained the relevant permission and rights to be able to use it.

Can I send you a normal photo in the post to use?

Sorry no.  We only work from digital photographic images.

Design Questions

What methods are used to create the artwork illustrations?

All of our illustrations are digitally produced in Photoshop from photos.  We create our artwork using a mixed media combination of digital watercolour brushing and pen sketching techniques. 

We like to think this enables us to create what we believe are quite striking and vibrant pieces of art, which stand out on the wall and draw you in as you examine the details.  

Because we work exclusively with digital files, we are able to automate some of the repetitive tasks and steps during the first preparation part of our illustration process.  This is partly how we are able to offer such a quick processing time on custom portrait orders.  However, every image also goes through an extensive editing, touching up and brushing process by hand.

Can I order a different print size to what's available?

Yes.  We are happy to accept custom requests for different sizes. Just get in touch and let us know you’re requirements and we’ll do our best to help.

Will the printed artwork colours match what I see on the screen?

The colours of the designs/artwork on our website are a close representation of what you see on the screen.  However, due to the differences in monitor calibrations, the colours you see on your screen may vary slightly to the finished print.

Delivery

How long for my order to be despatched?

How are the prints posted to me?

All of our prints are shipped to you via Royal Mail from the UK. Prints up to A4 or 8″ X 12″ are posted flat in a sturdy board backed envelope.  Our larger prints are posted in a solid cardboard tube foe extra protection.

  • UK addresses – Prints posted to the UK are sent via 1st class post.  This usually takes 1-2 business days from when you are notified of despatch.
  • EU adresses – Prints posted to the EU are sent via Royal Mail’s International Standard Delivery service which is untracked.  This usually takes 4-5 business days from when you are notified of despatch.
  • Rest of the World – Prints posted to the rest of the world are sent via Royal Mail’s Internation Standardal Delivery service which is untracked.  This usually takes 6-7 business days from when you are notified of despatch.
What if the print arrives damaged?

If the item has been received by you in a damaged condition, please contact us within 48 hours of your receipt to report the issue.  Where possible, please email images of the damage, so that we can investigate this further with our delivery service or print lab partners.  Once we have verified and accepted the damage, we will arrange for a replacement to be reproduced and sent out to a.s.a.p. free of charge.

How do I send you my photo?
  • On the product page you will see a section titled ‘Upload your photo’, underneath where you menu where you select the print size.
  • Click on the ‘Choose file’ button and that will open up a popup window and prompt you to select the appropriate file from your computer/device.

Do you accept returns?

If you don’t love the print after receiving it or if for any reason you are not happy with the service you have received, you can cancel your order within 14 working days, starting from the day after the goods have been received.

If you wish to return an item, please get in touch with us a.s.a.p. via our contact form here or by emailing us here: [email protected]  Please provide your full name and address, and the order number provided on your email receipt, as well as your reason for wishing to return the item.

It will be your responsibility to return your purchase in good confition and pay for the return postage.  We recommend that you send the item by recorded delivery to confirm our receipt.

Once we have received your item back, we will refund your purchase in full, minus the cost of the original postage costs. 

If the item arrives in a damaged condition

If the item has been received by you in a damaged condition, please contact us within 48 hours of your receipt to report the issue.  Where possible, please email images of the damage, so that we can investigate this further with our delivery service or print lab partners.  Once we have verified and accepted the damage, we will arrange for a replacement to be reproduced and sent out to a.s.a.p. free of charge. 

Custom portraits and artwork

With our custom portrait artwork we always send you a free digital proof to approve before printing.  Once you have confirmed your approval of the proof we are no longer able to refund your purchase, unless the artwork is damaged when you receive it.

As the artists and creators of the created photographically-altered work we produce for you, Specific Prints (the artist) retains all copyrights to the created images.

By uploading and sending us your photos you are acknowledging that you are the copyright owner of or you have been given express permission to have the image printed.  Specific Prints will not be held liable for images produced and printed without the prior consent from the copyright holder.
